On this World Mental Health Awareness Day, let’s shine a light on the importance of caring for mental health and the growth that can result from it, both as individuals and as organizations.
An estimated 15% of working age adults, have a mental disorder at any one time. In today’s fast-paced world, taking care of our mental health is not just a personal responsibility, but a collective one. It goes beyond preventing burn-out or organizing corporate vitality programs. It’s about creating a workplace environment that supports, nourishes and empowers individuals to thrive.
As an employer, you hold a pivotal role in shaping the mental health landscape within your organization. 🌱 Here are a few thoughts on how you can make a positive impact:
Prevent harm: Continuously assess and enhance your prevention programs. Identify stressors, provide resources for managing them such as building mental health literacy, encourage a safe and open dialogue about mental health in order to reduce stigma.
Fix problems: provide help to recover from impactful events such as workplace bullying, traumatic events, redundancies etc. Too often, individuals carry a heavy ‘backpack of painful experiences’, and it can profoundly affect their performance and overall well-being. By providing trauma informed and evidence-based interventions, let’s help your team members transform and reclaim their lives.
Cultivate Flourishing: Shift the focus from mere prevention to promoting flourishing. Create a culture where individuals feel valued, heard and empowered to harness their strengths to achieve personal and professional goals. Promote subjective well-being or positive mental health. Facilitate successful return to work after a (mental) illness related absence.
🤝 Imagine a workplace where employees feel supported, heard and equipped with the tools to navigate life’s challenges. This not only boosts their mental and emotional resilience but unlocks their true potential. 🚀
My mission is to rehumanize the workplace and help businesses restore human values at work, increase well-being and productivity. Interested to learn more? I'm just one phone call or in-mail away!
Let's make (mental) health a priority every day, not just today.
